It was very misty and overcast at Lake Louise, and I just wish I could have returned when the sky was blue... I have many pictures I want to upload, but they were taken pre Digital-SLR, and I scanned them in rather badly...I'm going to have another go with the scanner soon... Also, I've been reading some articles on Photoediting (up until now I have only done the most basics editing) and I've realised that as fantastic as Google's Picasa is at quick fixes, it is no match for the likes of Photoshop...anyone recommend a good book for learning the Art of Photoshop...?

This is a cool shot. Never seen Lake Louise like this. I love the monochromatic feel except for the sign ... well done.
As for Photoshop books ... you'd probably be better off finding some tutorials online and just working through those.

Awesome shot, I like the feel of it, too - the sign looks very cool, too.
For Photoshop, have you tried goodtutorials.com? I'm not so sure if they have some actually.. but I usually have coding websites bookmarked. :P You might want to try spoono.com too.

Hey, this is great! Really works for me. I don't even know if you desaturated the forest or not - looks almost like a duotone, but in any case the simplicity is great.

p.s. I'd recommend Adobe's "Classroom in a book" series.
No, the colours are as they were, I did consider applying a selective black and white, but the scene was already like that so there was no perceptable difference! Also just realised I made Photography No-no number 1 - the horizon is slap-bang in the middle!! D'Oh! (I took a few different shots of this scene and only the one I posted had the horizon in the middle - maybe I subconsciously felt it looked better like that...rules are made to be broken after all...)

Indeed! I don't want the composition improved upon here. It was meant to be so.

Good shot. like its composition. The Scott Kelby books are very good. Try - The Photoshop CS2 Book for Digital Photographers by Scott Kelby. And this one - Adobe Photoshop CS2 Studio Techniques by Ben Willmore.

Cool! The sign takes away the gravity and seriousness from the scene.
